Jane D Sokolowski at Catholic Charities Chemung/Schuyler in Elmira, a NeighborWorks America member organization has been awarded Counselor of the Year at the inaugural NeighborWorks National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling (NFMC) Program Counselor Awards. These awards recognize the contributions of counselors whose tireless efforts help homeowners maintain homeownership or transition to suitable housing. NeighborWorks America COO Chuck Wehrwein presented Jane Sokolowski with the award on December 13th at the NeighborWorks National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling (NFMC) Program Counselor Awards.

Jane Sokolowski has worked as a counselor and program coordinator at Catholic Charities Chemung/Schuyler for 16 years. She has provided comprehensive Pre- and Post-purchase homebuyer counseling and education foreclosure prevention services, and creative financial fitness strategies for low-to-moderate income families and individuals in a 5-county region; Chemung, Schuyler, Tioga, Tompkins and Steuben.

Catholic Charities of Chemung/Schuyler, a human service/social action agency whose mission is to help build communities that care for all people, reduce poverty, promote healthy individual and family life, advocate for justice and peace, is committed to homeownership assistance. For more than fifteen years, Catholic Charities and the City of Elmira have successfully collaborated to enable 410 families to purchase their first home in the City.

“Behind every good counselor is a strong support system – a solid foundation that will allow them to grow and be there for them when the going gets tough” states Sokolowski.
