Bethany Worrey, Director of Victim Services announced, “First Step Victim Services of Catholic Charities of Chemung/Schuyler would like to thank the participants, donors, staff, volunteers, and Watkins Glen State Park for making “Take a Hike, Domestic Violence” a success. This event allowed us to enhance the awareness of domestic violence and engage the community by coming together to provide personal care items that will assist victims when fleeing their abusive situations. We are humbled and grateful for the participation and look forward to holding this event every October for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.”

On Saturday, October 25th from 10a-Noon, over 50 adults and children hiked the gorge to raise awareness about this significant issue. In addition, over 200 personal care items were donated by the participants. Catholic Charities accepts donations of women’s personal care items, diapers and wipes on an on-going basis.

This free event was made possible by a generous grant from the Raising Dough for Kids Foundation and hosted by Catholic Charities of Schuyler County and the Coordinated Community Response Team (CCRT).  Make a donation.
