WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – Schuyler Outreach is working with six satellite pantries to meet the needs of food insecure households in Schuyler County. Due to community generosity, all pantries receive produce and dairy items each week. Those pantries are able to assist an average of 200 individuals each month. Anyone may visit the pantries once a month for an allotment of food. Pantries are located at: Cayuta Town Hall, Hector Presbyterian Church, and Reynoldsville United Methodist Church. Catherine Court, Jefferson Village and Romeo Village residents are also assisted each month.
Donations of food, children’s books, baby diapers, baby wipes and personal care items are what enable the Pantries to collectively serve over 600 individuals each month. Donations are accepted at Schuyler Outreach during regular Pantry hours (Tuesday: 9am – 2pm; Thursday: 9am – 2pm, 6pm – 8pm (evening hours are on 2nd & 4th Thursdays only); Friday: Noon – 4pm).
Schuyler Outreach is no longer accepting any donations of used clothing. Clothing donations may be given to Odessa Catherine United Methodist Church, Mustard Seed Ministries, or St. James Episcopal Church instead. These three organizations offer Thrift Shops all year-round to meet the clothing needs of those in our community.
While Schuyler Outreach may be changing its methods, it’s not changing its focus. We have been able to focus on our mission of feeding more people at all of our Pantries and providing more educational resources for those we serve. We are also able to direct people to local resources such as the Many Hands Thrift Shop (Church St, Odessa) for their Outerwear Giveaway (October 10 from 9a-1p) or to Labor of Love’s Clothing Giveaway (October 14 from 11a-6p at St. James) and to other resources that will help people all year long.
If you have a community resource that we should know about, please contact our new Pantry Coordinator, Kris to let her know. Kris enjoys educating everyone who visits the pantry on the resources available to them. She can be reached by email or leave a message for her at 535.2815. We are thrilled to have Kris as part of the Catholic Charities family in Schuyler County. Her enthusiasm for helping people is contagious! She also plans on offering financial literacy, budgeting and meal planning education in the coming months.
We would also like to welcome Suzanne as the Schuyler County Nutrition Outreach and Education Program Specialist. Sue will be available during regular Schuyler Outreach Food Pantry hours to assist with pre-screenings for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). You will also find her at various community locations educating people on the benefits of school breakfast and using SNAP to stretch their grocery dollars. You may contact her by email or 535.5133.
We are grateful for the continued support of the Schuyler County community as we work together to meet the needs of our neighbors. With the holidays quickly approaching, we are in need of businesses & individuals to adopt local families. More information can be found on our website: www.cs-cc.org. We will also be accepting donations of new clothing, gifts and toys to give to families who are not adopted this year.
