WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – Through its Raising Dough for Kids Foundation, Southport’s Pizza Hut donated $4,000 to Catholic Charities of Chemung/Schuyler on February 4, 2016.
“We are so grateful to have been awarded with the means to provide our local “kids” with the opportunities to thrive,” acknowledges Bethany, Victim Services and Housing Supervisor.
Catholic Charities’ First Step Victim Services Program and Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) Program submitted grant applications to the Foundation in order to receive the funds. First Step Victim Services will be using the award to purchase therapeutic bean bags for the teen groups that they facilitate. The Runaway and Homeless Youth program will use their funds to provide youth with financial assistance to participate in extracurricular activities. Research shows that youth participating in after school events or activities are more likely to build healthy relationships and make needed community connections that can be utilized during emergency situations.
The teen discussion groups, focused on healthy relationships and preventing dating violence, will be starting soon. Schuyler County School Guidance Counselors will be asked to refer parents and students to the RHY Program in order to receive financial assistance for extracurricular activities. For more information on either program or how you can get your teen involved, please contact Bethany at 607-535-2050.
