WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – Catholic Charities of Schuyler County was recently awarded $3,000 from the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc.
Part of this grant has been used to purchase trac phones and minute cards for victims leaving domestic violence situations. Our First Step Victim Services Advocates have the phones and minute cards on hand for emergency situations. Any victim of a crime is encouraged to contact our office for support and help at 607-535-2050. For emergency situations, our 24/7 hotline is available, 607-742-9629 (call/text).
The other part of this grant has been used to buy a new refrigerator for our Schuyler Outreach Food Pantry. This additional refrigerator has made the storage of increased donated produce and dairy possible.
Kris Morseman, Food Pantry Coordinator, shares, “Our number one goal at Schuyler Outreach Food Pantry is to provide fresh produce and dairy products to our patrons because these have high nutritional values. Just this week we were able to get carrots, onions, potatoes and cabbage in our delivery (from the Food Bank of the Southern Tier) and that’s just delicious news to anyone visiting the Pantry.”
Catholic Charities is thankful for the support of our community, the Community Foundation and individual donors who help us meet our goals and accomplish our mission every day. It’s amazing what we can do together.
