volunteer-collageWatkins Glen, NY – Catholic Charities of Schuyler County will honor 150 volunteers on September 21 at the Harbor Hotel in Watkins Glen at noon. Thanks to the incredible service of our volunteers, hundreds of people are able to access our food pantries each month, donations of furniture are received and distributed to those in need and much more.

“On behalf of Catholic Charities, I would like to thank our incredible volunteers for giving so much of their time to make our community a better place for families, seniors and individuals,” acknowledges Deb MacDonald, Agency Director of Catholic Charities of Schuyler County.

Studies suggest that productive activities slow the consequences of aging and volunteering seems to generate the best results. Volunteering is rewarding—it reduces stress, increases happiness and can make a difference in the lives of so many people. The socialization of volunteering is as important as the task performed. In 2015, Schuyler County RSVP had 164 active volunteers that donated 16,813 hours to our community. The service they provide allows non-profits to continue meeting local needs that would go un-met without these important volunteers.

Susan Larson, Director of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), says, “We are currently building a solid base of active volunteers for Schuyler County. It helps our senior population to stay active and involved and strengthens our community as a whole. Volunteers have so much experience to share!”
