Hikers from 2015 Domestic Violence Awareness Event

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Catholic Charities wants your help to say, “Take a Hike, Domestic Violence!” This awareness event takes place on Saturday, October 1st from 9:30am-Noon. There is no registration fee, but Catholic Charities will be accepting donations of $5 gift cards to local restaurants, grocery stores or gas stations to assist victims in obtaining needed items and support. There will be t-shirts available for the first 100 participants. Coffee will be available for purchase by Seneca Sunrise Coffee with proceeds being directed back to the First Step Program.

Starting at 9:30am, participants should meet at the Catholic Charities’ office (607 N. Franklin St., Watkins Glen, NY) to register and drop off donations. Local agencies will be on hand to offer resources and information as well. At 10:30am, after a brief program, participants will all hike the Watkins Glen Gorge! Bring your family & friends out to take a hike and make our community aware of domestic violence and the resources to help those in need of advocacy and support! Please join us on social media with #TakeAHikeDV to increase awareness.
