Catholic Charities of Chemung and Schuyler Counties is pleased to introduce their Cultural Competence and Health Literacy Program to the community. Funded through the Finger Lakes Performing Provider System (FLPPS), an Operations Specialist will work with area healthcare providers, as well as community-based organizations, to better understand their clients. Michelle Nicholas desires to create a positive impact on health outcomes through the trainings that are offered.
Michelle Nicholas stated, “Having a better understanding of another person’s culture is essential to providing them with quality care. Ensuring they’re able to understand and follow through with health care instructions is vital to their success. We look forward to working with area organizations to achieve this.”
In addition to partnering with area organizations to assist in operationalizing cultural competence and health literacy practices, the Operations Specialist will begin offering trainings in the Chemung and Steuben County areas this fall. Trainings can be tailored to meet an organization’s specific needs in relation to various cultural and health literacy topics, including, but not limited to Implicit Bias, Patient/Person-Centered Care, Cultural Competency and Human Resources, and Mental Models and Worldviews. Training sessions will also be offered to any community-based organization with an interest in learning more about meeting the needs of the people they serve. If your organization is interested in learning more, or to schedule a training, please contact Michelle Nicholas at 607-734-9784.
