Catholic Charities of Chemung/Schuyler Counties held their Annual Meeting on Wednesday, December 12 at the Elmira Country Club. This annual gathering was a time to honor retiring Board Members, Staff and a generous Community Partner, Chemung Canal Trust Company.
Since 1994, Chemung Canal Trust Company (CCTC) has been a strong and supportive member of our Housing Counseling Services Program. They have provided pre-purchase and post-purchase education for first-time home buyers, presented housewarming gifts to graduates of the program every year and made monetary donations to the program to keep it running. For more than a decade, teams from CCTC have planned, shopped, prepared and served the lunch meal at the Elmira Community Kitchen six times a year. In addition, they have supported our Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon since 2006 and painted the dining room and Kitchen of the Elmira Community Kitchen.
This partnership, along with the City of Elmira, allowed our Housing Counseling Services to serve over 300 households in 2018 alone, including 190 individuals who completed the pre-purchase workshops necessary for the First Time Homebuyer Program. Together, we continue to empower our community to sustain decent housing.
Two Board Members, Steve Agan and David Ralph have served their last year on the Board. The Smitty Paulison Award was presented to David Ralph who has served on the Board of Catholic Charities since 2000 and chaired several committees during that time.
Lastly, Lee Randall, the Director of Financial Services, and Tony Barbaro, the Associate Diocesan Director, were both recognized for their years of service to the Diocese of Rochester and Catholic Charities. Lee retired December 31, 2018 and, Tony will be retiring June 30, 2019.
