FAQs on Adopting a Family for Christmas in Schuyler County
– Is food provision required?
No, providing food for your adopted family is optional. You may provide non-perishable items, they will be appreciated. Families will be receiving food from The Schuyler Outreach Food Pantry during their monthly pantry visit and a special Christmas Food Bag with all the fixings for Christmas Dinner, including a turkey.
– Should we wrap all the gifts?
Please wrap the parent(s)/adult(s) gifts. If you are able to supply wrapping paper and tape for the CHILDREN’S gifts, that would be most appreciated. You may wrap the children’s gifts as well if you prefer. Please include a list of purchased/wrapped items for the parents’ reference.
– Should I buy everything on their list?
Not necessarily. The items are given to help you understand the person you are buying for. It’s not expected that you buy everything on the list.
– How much should I spend per person?
A maximum of $100/person is suggested.
– What should I do if a color of an item was not specified (i.e. towels)?
When in doubt, go with darker colors that don’t show wear and stains as easily.
– How will you know which family I have?
Please be sure to label your gifts with the family number of your adopted family, as well as gender/age for any wrapped gifts.
– When will I receive my family’s information?
You will receive your family information at least a week before Thanksgiving. It will be emailed to the email address we have on file for you. If you didn’t provide an email address when you signed up as an adopter, it will be mailed to you. If you’d prefer email, please let us know!
– When do I drop off the gifts?
Gifts need to be dropped off at Schuyler Outreach (112 10th St, WG) on December 11, 2019, between noon & 8pm. Volunteers are available to assist with unloading.
– Are any other donations needed?
Yes, paper products, personal care items, towels, washcloths, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, and socks.
– How can I make a donation to Catholic Charities?
Donate here or mail a check directly to Catholic Charities’ Main Office, 215 E Church St, Elmira, NY 14901. Put Schuyler Christmas in the memo. Thank you!
