Title: First Step
Subject: Art that responds to the impact of non-physical violence on victims, family members, friends and colleagues, as if it were as easily recognized as is physical abuse. For example, prompts may include aspects of emotional abuse such as “mind games,” threats, isolation,
shaming, blaming and criticizing.
Media includes, but is not limited to, painting, photography, drawing, print, mosaic, sculpture, stencil, sticker fiber, fashion, poetry, lyrics, video.
Eligibility: Open to adults eighteen years and older
Submission: Up to three pieces
Selection: Artwork submissions juried for inclusion.

Size Restrictions: In general, 2D artwork at least 8” X11” (and a maximum of 36”x60”). Larger work must be discussed with Community Arts of Elmira prior to submission. All work must be “exhibit ready.” In Particular, 2-D work must be PROPERLY FRAMED and READY TO HANG (this means a wire across the back). Work not framed and ready to be hung will be left out of the show. Sloppy or unprofessional work (creased, wrinkled, stained, etc.) will be rejected. There is a 50 lb. weight limit for all work. The artist is responsible for communicating any special installation needs, and, if approved by Community Arts of Elmira, the artist will be responsible for any incurred installation cost. Video equipment special needs provided by the artist.
Delivery of Artwork: Saturday, March 2, 11am-1pm
Artwork Retrieval: Saturday, April 27, 1-2pm
Work left at Community Arts 30 days past any retrieval date becomes the property of Community Arts to sell/use/ disperse/market. In addition, all artwork accepted for the exhibition is subject for use as media promotion of the exhibition.
*Commission: Community Arts of Elmira receives 30% commission on gallery sales. Community Arts charges sales tax. Sold work must remain in the exhibition until it ends, and all sales related to the exhibition must be processed through Community Arts of Elmira.
